And the winner is...

A couple of weeks ago we announced the search for a design to go on our latest bottle. We teamed up with WalesOnline to offer the chance to get your design on a very special brew of a traybake-inspired Sweetshop Stout called Sugar Rush.

Over the years we’ve had countless people ask us if they can have a go at designing a label so, for the first time ever, we’ve given control of our bottle label to someone else!

The person being Dave Hill, from Leamington!

Dave works in Marketing and had been working on his Graphic Design Illustration for the past 6 months. In fact, we’d already seen some of his work (unbeknownst to us) via his awesome work over on Instagram - Dave has featured a few of our beers on @thecraftdiaries, where he illustrates scenes on photos of the latest beer he likes.

It was a pleasant surprise to find that the artist we’d been loving on Instagram had won our competition! Here’s what Dave had to say:

I'm extremely happy to have won, of course for the iPad, beer etc, but more so for getting my label produced - can't wait to see it! I've been a fan of Tiny Rebel’s beer and branding for a while now and I think it was a really cool competition idea by them.

Over the past couple of weeks, Dave has been chatting to our designer Taz about slight tweaks to the design. Here’s what Taz said about the entry:

We felt a pink colour palette would work better, due to the beer having cherry flavours in and our needing to get across the fact that it’s strong, thick and sweet. So we felt that we needed to reflect that aspect more in the palette. We’ve used the tones and hues Dave had already chosen for the sky, because his eye for colour is spot on. All of the biscuits and marshmallows are perfect for suggesting the oaty, chocolatey, sweet flavours that will be there too so we haven't changed those a bit.

Finally, we massively approved of another idea Dave had. Though we asked entrants not to play with our bear logo, Dave showed us a second version of his design that would have broken the rules, but that we loved.

Our ‘Willy Wonka’ style bear is the cherry on top of this terrific bottle design. The detail of the brewery, our silos, the tap handle and ice cream van in the background is incredible!

Speaking of cherries, this week we added a few of the special ingredients to the brew. Half a tonne of cherry puree and 25kg of cocoa powder went into the fermenter, and the are more special additions to come!

The beer will be launched at the Tiny Rebel Newport Food & Drink Festival in October!

If you’d like to be among the first to try this very special beer, it’s part of our Newport Food Festival Supper taking place on October 2nd and 3rd. To buy tickets to this 5-course meal, please click here.
