One question we get asked a lot is “Can I design a label for your beer?” Our love of eclectic design work is shared by many, and it seems like lots of people want to give it a go themselves.
So we’ve decided to let ‘em!
WalesOnline have asked us to offer the label of a new beer as a canvas for an artist to make their own - we’re brewing something very special and are looking for a design to match!
We proudly display the doodles of regulars behind the bar in our Newport pub, exhibit local artists in our Cardiff bar and foster the creative talents of all of our staff members - we thought it’d be fun to extend that to everyone!
So if you’re a wannabe Banksy, an up-and-coming graffito or just always fancied trying your hand at something new, we’d love to see your ideas!
Whether you’re a young amateur or an old pro, the competition is open to all. The winning entry will be selected based on the idea and the creative spark shown - you don’t need a PhD in paint to win.
Here's all the info you need to inspire your design:
The beer is called Sugar Rush. It's a 'Sweetshop Stout' and is a hefty 8.5%.
It will be made from chocolate, honeycomb, biscuits, marshmallows, dried fruits, nuts, coconut, lactose and anything else that suits!
This beer is inspired by our collective sweet tooth, old-fashioned sweet shops and Grandma’s seemingly infinite traybakes.
So Sugar Rush is a big, bold stout packed to the brim with the sweetest treats. Think rocky road meets rice crispy cake, via chocolate milkshake and through the chocolate bar aisle, finishing in a rich, decadent beer that’s half Willy Wonka experiment and half liquid nostalgia.
The design should encapsulate the feverish excitement of a sweet treat, and the wave of satisfaction that gives the beer its name.
You can enter with anything from a doodle on a napkin or a beermat to a full-on digital masterpiece. How you want to present your idea is completely up to you. It can be a solo effort from a design student or a collaboration between mates down the pub. If it makes us smile, it’s in with a chance.
The winner will receive two free tickets to Cardiff Brewfest, where their winning entry will be announced, a session with our creative team to give you an inside scoop on how our process works, and a sit-down with our designer Taz who will help you polish your design ready for print!
On top of that, there’s a brand new iPad to help hone your design skills and a year’s supply of the beer itself (if you’re over 18 - equivalent prize for anyone under)!
If you know anyone who would love to see their artwork and their name on a limited edition beer, then get them to submit their idea via WalesOnline. Good luck!
