Our Community

The surrounding areas of where Tiny Rebel work are super important to us.

We are committed to ensuring positive social development within the communities in which we operate, and also further afield, and as an organisation we seek to be dynamic in the change for good. From sponsoring local football, cycling and running clubs to donating weekly meals for a local homeless charity, inclusivity is at the heart of our community engagement.

We are proud that we have built a culture within Tiny Rebel that promotes all things charity and community. We recognise that this is important to our employees, and this is why they are encouraged to take a community volunteer day each year, "A Day to make a Difference" for a charitable activity of their choice.

Having fun through personal interests and a positive presence! We also have our charity champions– our ‘Rebel Hearts’, who work to coordinate efforts and maintain motivation and awareness of the Tiny Rebel Ten Percent (at least 10% of our profits each year are ring fenced for our social responsibility agenda), and work on community projects. Tiny Rebel has a social conscience that pushes us to be better every day.

We champion many local charities including HCT, St. David’s Hospice, Freebike4kids, SARA and Tenovus Cancer Care, amongst others, and we are also incredibly proud of our Community Christmas Dinner Project.

Community Fund

2022 saw Tiny Rebel celebrate their 10th birthday with massive celebrations and an amazing scheme we called 'Birthday Bucks' - a £15k pot that anyone could apply for a percentage of, to fund projects in their community.

Newport Female Runners Network

NFRN are a Newport-based group offering free social runs for all women in the local area who are looking for new running buddies, support, safety in numbers new running routes and new friends.

The Network was stablished in October 2019 and Tiny Rebel have sponsored the club since 2021. Their runs aim to be social and inclusive, fun and challenging, for those new to running or those who have been running their whole life, and all the runs begin and end at a cafe or pub to allow the socialising to continue afterwards!

Jubilee Park Cycling Club

JPCC are a club for keen cyclists based on and around Jubilee Park, Newport.

Established in 2020, JPCC organise local group rides and share information via their Facebook page, as well as encouraging entry to more challenging sportives.  Tiny Rebel have been supporting JPCC since 2021 and our sponsorship allows the group to subsidise their awesome kit to their cyclists as well as upskill ride leaders.

We also regularly welcome club members to our Brewery bar which serves as their clubhouse of sorts!

Rogerstone A.F.C

We officially opened our Rogerstone brewery in July 2017. We wanted to ensure we are a true part of the local community, and as part of that we became kit sponsors of Rogerstone AFC.

After hard fought matches, the team and their visiting opposition pile into their clubhouse - our brewery bar!

Jubilee Park Rangers FC

Established in 2021, some of our own Rebels were quick to join Jubilee Park Rangers FC and we couldn’t say no to being their official club sponsors!

The team play only a short half-mile away from our Brewery Bar, on The Welfare Ground, Rogerstone, and also use the Brewery Bar as their hub.

NoFit State Circus

"NoFit State Circus proudly partnered with Tiny Rebel in 2022 for the Wales tour of our brand new Big Top contemporary circus show SABOTAGE. Tiny Rebel generously sponsored the tour with their awescraft beers which meant that we were able to generate additional income. This allowed us to distribute more free and discounted tickets to people from underrepresented backgrounds, particularly in key locations such as Merthyr Tydfil and Bangor.

We love Tiny Rebel’s beers, as well as their maverick approach - celebrating inclusivity, diversity and difference and this chimes with our own values. Tiny Rebel’s support has made a huge difference to the success of our tour and we are so grateful for their belief in our work - bringing world class contemporary circus to diverse audiences and working with some of the most deprived communities in Wales. Cheers, Tiny Rebel!"

Tiny Timeline

2020

Something to do with locking down....? Like many other businesses we initially shut down assuming we'd need to weather the oncoming storm. But, it turns out everyone wanted beer at home, so our website was the busiest it had ever been. It became a problem when we started to run out of beer.

2017

We began brewing at our new home in January 2017, and officially opened the new brewery in July.

Our dual stream, 30bbl brewhouse gives us a maximum capacity of 5million litres annually.

We invested heavily in packaging, with a new cask racker, German kegging machine and Italian bottling line. For the first time ever, we canned our beers, bringing an American canning line in-house.

But we quickly realised this place wouldn't be big enough, so in September we bought the plot across the road - doubling our footprint here at Wern and giving us plenty of space to grow into.

And we opened our doors to welcome you into our world. With tours and tastings, and an incredible bar on site, we're extremely proud to call this place home!

2016

We reached maximum capacity with no options for expansion. But that didn’t stop us. Still wanting to keep that creative spark alive, we promised to brew 30 new beers over the course of the year.

Our original brewhouse was put up for sale, in preparation for the next chapter in our story. We secured a site, got to the drawing board with our architects, and announced plans to move to a bespoke new brewery for 2017.

We hit 20 export destinations, brewed our 1000th Gyle, released a Cwtch homebrew kit, became main sponsor of the Newport Food & Drink Festival and then won two major awards - SIBA’s Brewery Business of the Year & the International Beer Challenge UK Brewer of the Year.

In August, we attended the Great British Beer Festival for the first time, with 8 cask lines on our bar. We became one of only a handful of breweries to have been invited to occupy part of the main bar, to sell out by Sunday.

2015

In May 2015, we opened a month-long pop-up bar in our home town of Newport, called Urban Pop-Up. Freshly made pizza, beers brewed just ten minutes away and that distinctive Tiny Rebel atmosphere brought something totally new to the city.

We made it three years in a row in the top three of the Champion Beer of Wales competition, with Hadouken taking Bronze.

But 2015 brought us something even more monumental.

We became the first brewery from Wales, and the youngest brewery ever to win Champion Beer of Britain, with Cwtch taking the top prize.

We brought Cardiff its first independent beer festival, inviting brewery friends from all over the UK to come and show Wales what they do. And in October, we opened our second permanent bar on the site of Urban Pop-Up.

2014

In March we collaborated with Hogan’s to launch our first cider, Rocksteady.

Then in April, we let our first lager Bo'Ho loose on the world.

Investments were made adding new fermenters, casks, software and staff, allowing us to level up the business.

Our fledgling bar Urban Tap House was beat strong opposition to be awarded a trophy from Shortlist Magazine for being the Best New Bar in Britain. In October, we won the Insider Media Made in Wales Food and Drink Award.

Oh, and between those two, we became the first brewery to defend their Champion Beer of Wales title at the Great Welsh Beer and Cider Festival.

2013

2013 was huge. We brewed our strongest beer, NP10, a Belgian Golden Ale, in February. We launched the first version of our online shop to get the hottest Tiny Rebel gear straight to our fans.

We bought a 1960s Bedford CF Ice Cream van, pimped it out and drove it right into the Great Welsh Beer and Cider Festival. In our first year eligible for the competition, we drove away with a clean sweep of Gold, Silver and Bronze - the first brewery ever to win all three top spots.

Then in August, we announced that we’d be opening a bar in the heart of Cardiff. Urban Tap House, as it was called then, is Cardiff’s first and biggest beer-focused bar.

We did our first collab with the world renowned Newport super-group Goldie Lookin’ Chain, launched a charity brew called Movembeer and exported to 8 countries. And we got in to trouble trying to export FUBAR to Sweden...

2012

It all started on the 16th February, at The Commercial, Pontyminster. Our first two beers, FUBAR and Urban IPA were launched, after years of experimenting with recipes and business plans.

Lots more beer releases followed before we made our debut at the Great Welsh Beer and Cider Festival. Despite stocking up well, we were the first brewery to sell out on every day of the festival.

We secured our first permanent lines in bars in the Welsh capital, Cardiff, as well as opened a brewery bar to host visitors and treat ourselves to a pint after a hard day’s brewing.

All of that, with only 2 staff and a max annual capacity of 80,000 litres.

2011

Back when Tiny Rebel was just a twinkle in the eye...

Gazz had taught Brad about beer and they were homebrewing together for a bit. Friends and family that they gave the beer to were coming back again and again. It was all starting to take off...

So they took the plunge. Recipes? Easy. Business Plan? No problem.

The real difficulty was to put a name and an image to what we wanted to do.

But eventually it became blindingly obvious. Two blokes in a garage seeking an alternative to big brewery rubbish. We're tiny, but we're rebels. We are Tiny Rebel.

All we needed was an image that ties together every aspect of our attitude - fun, creativity, relaxation and rebelliousness.

Like our home city of Newport, we're a bit rough around the edges. We love the urban environment and all the graffiti artwork that comes with it.

We needed something to tie all this together. And so our bear came to be!
